About Mark
Mark Portmann has enjoyed tremendous success internationally throughout his career spanning over a decade. Working with a diverse variety of Pop and Latin artists including Celine Dion, Barbara Stresiand, Josh Groban, Christina Aguilera, Quincy Jones, Luis Miguel, and Carole King, Mark has composed and produced music in English, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese. Presently working on a Diane Warren project for Sony Music, he also recently produced 7 songs (and wrote) in 3 languages for Universal artists The Three Graces with the Prague Symphony.
Mark's music has been used in prime time and day time TV shows, Cable, Films, Soundtracks, Commercials, and Spanish TV Novelas. TV uses include a current theme song used on General Hospital, "I Believe," and cues in Ghost Whisperer, Oprah, Ellen,Las Vegas, Guiding Light, Passions, The Grammys, Lisa Williams, Diagnosis Murder, Daily Shift, and Despierta America on networks including NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, Lifetime, Encore, Showtime, BET, Disney, SoapNet, Galavision, and Univision. Film uses include cues in American Yakuza, Forever Lulu, Along For The Ride, Pooh's Grand Adventure, Made In America, Peaceful Warrior and Miracle on 34th Street.
Hailing from Ohio and educated at Eastman School of Music in Rochester and University of Miami, Mark started his career under the wings of producer David Foster and worked with various industry luminaries such as Phil Ramone, Quincy Jones, Teddy Riley, Rudy Perez, Emilio Estefan, and Humberto Gatica. Mark learned under arrangers Johnny Mandel, Jeremy Lubbock, and Will Ross. As a songwriter, Mark has collaborated with Carole King, Alejandro Sanz, Claudia Brant, Stephanie Bentley, Lindy Robbins, Ty Lacy and Dennis Matowsky, Chuck Cannon, Keith Follese, John Bettis, Carole Bayer Sager, Brenda Russell and Rudy Perez.
Mark has arranged/conducted/orchestrated with the London Symphony Orchestra, Prague Symphony, Hollywood Recording Orchestra, LA East Utah Symphony, and Seattle Symphony for various projects.
Mark works out of his recording studio in Marina del Rey which includes a Sony Oxford console, Yamaha Grand piano, PT HD maxed out system, (5) Gigastudio PCs and huge array of plugins and sound libraries.
Awards Achievments
Mark has won numerous ASCAP and BMI awards, Dove Award Song of the Year, and has been nominated for Grammy's for songwriting and arranging.
